Pretty Little Liars had a special talent for seemingly promising many answers, only to end up confusing and redirecting the audience with each episode. While the show's strongest seasons were in its early years, one consistently excellent element of every season was the finales.
It's no surprise that summer breaks and season finales ranked highest on IMDb, as these were the episodes that gave fans some, but certainly not all, of the answers they were looking for. From shocking revelations, disgust, and plenty of murders, the season finales and even some Halloween specials kept audiences on their toes while delivering much of the satisfaction fans expected each season.

UnMasked - Episode 25; Season 2
The season two finale of Pretty Little Liars brought some controversial decisions that divided fans. As expected, A was 'revealed' as one of the most villainous main characters, Mona, and Aria and Ezra decided to continue their problematic relationship. However, there was a twist that managed to save the episode, and it came when the writers surprised everyone by killing off Maya — Emily's girlfriend.
This was a major cliffhanger that had fans on Twitter talking for months, as it was so unpredictable and unexpected. Everyone was debating whether she had been the victim of Mona's revenge or if there was now a new threat in town. Regardless, this was a mystery fans hoped to solve in season three.

The Murders - Episode 12; Season 3
Another epic summer finale, "The Murders" was highly praised by PLL fans because the writers found the perfect balance between suspense and drama. The stakes were high as the lives of Caleb, Emily, and Paige were on the line after they discovered who killed Maya and were left on an epic cliffhanger, with A plotting a huge scheme involving the Halloween train party.
To shake things up even more, the writers also wanted to break everyone's favorite couple, Spencer and Toby, when it was revealed he was part of the A-team. This was certainly an unexpected twist and a betrayal that cut fans deeply, especially since Spencer always defended him whenever people said he was a bad person. Fans could barely wait to see what the ramifications of this would be.

Dark Journey - Episode 13; Season 3
The Halloween episode of season 3 of Pretty Little Liars, 'Dark Journey', was one that fans don't forget quickly. Full of action, murder, and mystery, everyone was, once again, on the edge of their seats as fans waited to see what A had up their sleeve.
Although fans wished they would stop using the phrase "the liars' lives are on the line" because it was starting to get a bit disappointing and repetitive, they loved the cliffhanger that revealed Alison was alive, as it led many to wonder exactly where she was and why she still hadn't come home. Fans could barely wait for the Liars to discover this too.

Welcome to the Dollhouse - Episode 25; Season 5
At the end of season 5, the liars were wrongly convicted as accomplices in the 'murder' of Mona and were on their way to prison. But it didn't take long for A to hijack the van, incapacitate the Liars, and put them in a dollhouse for another of their twisted games.
While the episode took fans on an emotional and scary journey through the dollhouse, with the added suspense of the girls trying to escape in time. It was also a memorable episode in adding another villain player to the game, who was known by the Liars as 'Charles'. It seemed the writers were pushing to refresh the series and start the mysteries all over again.

The Game Begins, Charles - Episode 1; Season 6
In season 6 of Pretty Little Liars, the Liars found a way out of the dollhouse, but are still not completely free, as they must stay there a bit longer. The novelty of the new torture location that made the season 5 finale so interesting wore off a bit, but it still remained the most interesting part of the episode, as A also wreaked havoc on Toby and the rest of the police tried to track down the girls.
Seeing the police actively get so close to finding A was certainly fun for the audience, as it makes viewers feel like they will finally discover their identity. The girls also appeared visibly traumatized after the dollhouse incident, adding a darker touch to the episode. However, more clues and more mysteries were all that was revealed in this episode of Pretty Little Liars.
