Who Was Translucent?
Translucent was one of the Seven, the most famous and powerful superhero team at Vought. He had the power to become invisible and his skin was practically indestructible. However, only his body became invisible; any clothing or accessories he was wearing would still be visible. Because of this, he had to be naked to use his power.
The character normally used invisibility to sneak into women's locker rooms and bathrooms, but because he was one of Vought's heroes, he also fought crime from time to time.

What Happened to Him?
At the beginning of the series when Hughie meets Butcher, he's given the mission to plant a bug in the Seven's meeting room at Vought headquarters. The entire mission seemed to go smoothly for Hughie, but he didn't realize that Translucent had been watching him hidden in the bathroom.
So Translucent follows him and ends up at Hughie's job at an electronics store, where a battle breaks out between the hero, Butcher, and Hughie. Eventually, Hughie remembers that the hero's skin is made of some kind of metal alloy and that electricity would solve the problem. But no matter how much Translucent was electrocuted, he wouldn't die, just pass out.
Then Butcher gathers his team with Frenchie and A-Train to try to take down the hero. They end up locking him in an abandoned warehouse while trying to figure out how to kill him.
The guys try everything they can—weapons, chainsaws, drills, angle grinders—but nothing works and the hero stays alive.
That is, until the moment when Frenchie has an epiphany and discovers how to finish off Translucent.

How Did the Hero Die?
First they knocked out the hero with electricity, then they inserted a bomb inside him. And they set it up to be activated through a remote control.
The reasoning was that despite his exterior being indestructible, his interior was like anyone else's. So Billy Butcher's team quickly gets the information they need from the hero, but at that moment the leader of the Seven, Homelander, is in the neighborhood.
The guys set up a plan to throw off Homelander while Hughie stays watching Translucent. He was locked in an electric cell, but sensing Homelander's proximity, he quickly thinks of an escape plan. Translucent then urinates on the bars, causing a short circuit so he can escape.
Hughie was up until then a normal person, maybe a little more cowardly than average, but he had never killed anyone. However, in an act of rebellion, seeing Translucent escaping and insulting him, he presses the remote control button and the hero explodes into a thousand pieces of blood and guts.

Check Out the Moment
This was the 2nd death of the series, and just like the first one (Hughie's girlfriend), it was shocking and diabolical. In the series' story, it was also the first time a major superhero died at the hands of enemies.
After that, Translucent became invisible forever.
