Superman's Lineage Shows He's Actually a God
Superman is one of the most powerful superheroes of all time, and apparently the reason for this isn't just that he's an alien.

Apparently all Kryptonians are descendants of the gods who inhabited the planet, but after a war caused by Cythonna, they were forced to leave Krypton and abandon their mortal children.
Fans have always thought that Superman had powers on a divine level, now they can be sure of it. Although the perspective that Clark's celestial heritage came from an Elseworlds story, it certainly helps explain why Superman is as powerful as a God.
All fans already know that Kryptonians gain powers when exposed to yellow sun rays. As seen with Clark, Kara, and even Krypto. But the God father of Superman's house is Rao, the most powerful figure in the Kryptonian pantheon.
Perhaps, instead of being due to just his biology, Clark's powers come from a connection to bathing in the rays to which Rao is connected. If that's true, his journey to the solar system may not have been just a last attempt to save him, but something predetermined by the Gods of Krypton.

Super strength, super speed, flight, laser vision, freeze breath, invulnerability, among so many others, the world's most famous hero really does possess many abilities. The reason for so many powers could be due to the hero's unique physiology, but Clark is far from being the only Kryptonian in the DC Universe. And yet, he has defeated forces that would surpass some of DC's most powerful characters. One villain may have given an answer about why Superman always has one more power than most. In Superman: The Last God of Krypton, by Walt Simonson, Greg Hildebrandt, and Tim Hildebrandt, a Kryptonian God called Cythonna awakens to find Krypton destroyed and seeks the last remaining member of her civilization. She discovers Clark on Earth, and after demonstrating her power believes he is a God like her. Later, the two fight when Cynthonna realizes that Clark is mortal, becoming even more outraged when he tells her that he belongs to the House of El. Cythonna then tells Clark that the Els are actually the descendants of her greatest enemy, Rao, the Kryptonian sun God.
