A new special trailer for Weathering With You (Tenki no Ko) was released today (2). However, the video is not just to promote Makoto Shinkai's new film. With an emotional sequence of various excerpts from his main works, the video shows the full intensity of the relationships.
Thus, we can see scenes from Voices of a Distant Star (2002), The Place Promised in Our Early Days (2004), A Chain of Short Stories About Their Distance (2007), Children Who Chase Lost Voices (2011), The Garden of Words (2013), and Your Name (2016). The sequence highlights the intensity in relationships, something quite evident in all of Shinkai's works.
Next, we have about 3 minutes of many new and exciting scenes from Weathering With You. Check it out below:
The film tells the story of Hotaka Morishima, a boy who runs away from his home on an isolated island to the city of Tokyo, and Akina Amano, a girl with the strange power to control the weather through prayers. Thus, these two young people forge their own destinies in a world where climatic harmony has been disrupted.
Finally, Weathering With You (Tenki no Ko) premieres on July 19 in Japan. There will also be a worldwide release, expected shortly after the Japanese theatrical debut. However, there are no details yet on how the film will arrive in the West. It is expected to be through some streaming service, as happened with Your Name. We just have to wait.
