Black Widow spoilers ahead:
In the Black Widow post-credits scene, we return to the current MCU with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) visiting Natasha Romanoff's grave. Yelena whistles in tribute to her fallen sister, referring to a call and response they shared since childhood. Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) visits Yelena at the grave, giving her a new mission to take down Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), whom she holds responsible for Natasha's death.
Cate Shortland revealed to Variety that the post-credits scene almost included a response to Yelena's whistle, but the idea was ultimately discarded:
“We never put it in. But we talked about it.”
If a response to Yelena's whistle had been implemented in the post-credits scene, it might have suggested a return for Natasha. However, the Black Widow film appears to be Scarlett Johansson's official swan song in the MCU, as the Oscar-nominated actress seems ready to move on.
Directed by Cate Shortland from a screenplay by Eric Pearson, the Marvel film stars Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbor, OT Fagbenle, Ray Winstone, Olivier Richters, and Rachel Weisz.
