With this new deal, Universal's major releases will be split among the three platforms, premiering first on Peacock and then on Amazon Prime Video and IMDb TV.
To clarify, the agreement works as follows: 120 days after theatrical release, Universal films will arrive on Peacock, NBCUniversal's streaming service.
Each film will remain on Peacock for four months, after which the movies will be available on Amazon Prime Video and IMDb TV. Once on these two platforms, the films will be accessible to subscribers for ten months.
After ten months on Amazon Prime Video and IMDb TV, the films will return to Peacock and remain available there for an additional four months.
Besides Universal's major franchises, new films will also be included in this deal, such as Halloween Kills and the new The Exorcist. DreamWorks animated films, meanwhile, will move to Netflix after four months on Peacock.
Before finalizing this agreement, Amazon had already invested to expand its catalog by acquiring Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, gaining rights to franchises like Rocky, 007, and more. The purchase was valued at US$ 8.45 billion.
