Although Invincible has now been adapted into an (excellent) animated series for Amazon Prime, writer and creator Robert Kirkman confirmed that a live-action project is still in development.
While answering questions at this year’s Comic-Con@Home, Kirkman discussed the development of a live-action adaptation of Invincible, assuring fans that every effort is being made to ensure it will be different from the animated series:
“I’m not saying! This is one of those things that’s starting a bit early, but I have to say there’s a big effort to make sure the movie experience is unique while still being true to Invincible,” he said. “I couldn’t be more excited about the things we’re doing, but I still can’t tell you.”

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg from The Boys announced four years ago that they were working on a live-action adaptation of Invincible, but since then, the same creative team launched the animated version. Kirkman’s statement suggests the movie is still in progress, even if news about development has cooled down.
The animated series has so far adapted the original comics quite faithfully, while still managing to make some changes along the way, including improving pacing, updating several characters for modern times, and adding more drama to some of the main plot beats.
Invincible follows Mark Grayson, who starts as an apparently normal teenager except for the fact that his father, Nolan, is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man. Shortly after his seventeenth birthday, Mark begins to develop his own powers and is tutored by his father. Taking on the superhero alter ego, Invincible, Mark starts working as a superhero, with his father acting as his mentor and meeting other heroes.
The Invincible animation has already been renewed for two more seasons by Amazon. The first season is available on Amazon Prime.
