Synopsis of the Netflix dorama “Thirty-Nine”

In “Thirty-Nine, a trio of best friends experiences the transformative journey of turning 40 together. Cha Mi-jo (Son Ye-jin) is a dermatologist in Gangnam. A loving woman, she has never faced hardship, having been raised in a well-structured family in a warm home. Jeong Chan-young (Jeon Mi-do) has always dreamed of becoming a great actress but ended up sticking to a career as a theater teacher.  On the other hand, Jang Joo-hee (Kim Ji-hyun) is a manager at a cosmetics store, very shy and thus inexperienced when it comes to relationships. Despite their very different personalities, the three friends will face similar situations of love and loss as they approach their 40s.  Now, the trio needs to find strength in each other to overcome challenges and enjoy the best phase of their lives.

"Dorama" is the term given to TV series produced in Asian countries like Japan, China, South Korea, Thailand, and Taiwan. Originally, the term was used specifically to refer to Japanese TV series, but it has since been adopted for other Asian productions as well.
