Anthony Edwards spoke about his legacy in Top Gun
"People had a certain feeling in the original and this [Top Gun: Maverick] does exactly what you wanted to see the first time, just more of it. Like I told Tom, 'mission accomplished'. They did it. But they really did. It was a lot of hard work dedicated to it. It had the feeling, it had the tone, it had what people wanted".
Anthony Edwards and Tom Cruise played the duo Nick "Goose" Bradshaw and Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the first film directed by Tony Scott, where together they trained at the Naval Air Combat School at Naval Air Station San Diego, California, known as TOPGUN. However, Anthony's character dies in an air accident, leaving his partner to fly alone.
Top Gun: Maverick arrived in Brazilian theaters in May 2022 and despite taking more than a decade to finish production, plus the challenges of filming during the Covid-19 pandemic, Joseph Kosinski gave us the sequel to the classic. In the sequel to Maverick, Maverick returns to TOPGUN after 30 years as an instructor.
Maverick continues to be a rebel pilot, delivering breathtaking scenes, like the destruction of a plane at the beginning of the new film. Back, he must train a group of pilot trainees for a mission in enemy territory, among the pilots is Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, played by Miles Teller, who is Goose's son.
Anthony Edwards did not attend the global premiere of Top Gun: Maverick, but he said that Tom Cruise screened the film for him in New York at the Dolby projection room. In the film, Nick Bradshaw is remembered through photos and flashbacks, keeping his story alive.
