Revealing the identity of the prototype that served as a test for the results of the potions, the series obviously followed a dangerous path, since many fans might be disappointed with a "break from canonical content." But the fact is that, at least in the Netflix universe, The Witcher: Blood Origin revealed who was the first witcher.
The origin of the witchers
The Witchers are bounty hunters who live to kill monsters, earning money in exchange for spilling the blood of the most varied colossal and grotesque beasts. While in the series starring Henry Cavill the Order of Witchers is already known and has even passed its golden age, in the spinoff we see the origin of everything.
The Witcher: Blood Origin shows the rise of the Golden Empire after the fall of the three elven kingdoms called Xin'trea, Pryshia, and Darwen. Thus, we see the importance of characters like Princess Xin'trea Merwyn and the mage Balor to this universe, while the audience follows the discovery of the Continent's Monoliths and how they serve as portals to other worlds.
In this scenario, the series also shows the arrival of the first colossal monster to the continent through the Monoliths and how this fact served as the reason for creating the first witcher. To fight such a powerful beast, someone capable of performing great feats is needed, and no ordinary man would be ready.
Who was the first witcher in The Witcher
When the Seven decide to create a prototype to defeat the monster and overthrow the Golden Empire, the character Sindrill volunteers for the process. However, for the plan to work the group would need a warrior and not a mage, which leads us to another character: Fjall.
With Fjall and Éile being the only ones capable of completing the experiment, the woman proves determined to be the first Witch in history, but it's Fjall who takes the elixirs to protect the woman he loved.
"Sacrificing himself" for Éile's sake, Fjall becomes the guinea pig and ends up having the monster essence injected into his organism. After the experience the character dies, but soon after resurrects in a much more powerful form. Thus was born the first Witcher in history.

Although Fjall was able to defeat the great monster, the experiment didn't have the expected result, as the warrior went insane and turned against his own allies.
After Fjall was defeated by Éile, the experiment became a secret known only to the Seven. The first official Witchers would be created only centuries later.
Poor reception
Starring Michelle Yeoh, The Witcher: Blood Origin was an attempt to expand the franchise on the
streaming service, however the reception may mean that Netflix will no longer explore the universe in similar ways.
Extremely bashed by critics, the production has only 33% approval on Rotten Tomatoes, displaying the rotten tomato. As for the audience, not even the franchise's appeal was able to avoid failure, as fan approval is only 10%.
