The Witchers Order
Let's start the right way, talking about the origin of the order. In the 10th century, kings and sorcerers came up with the idea of creating something that could protect the world, fighting monsters and thus freeing humanity from these terrors. So they decided to create the order of Witchers, men modified to hunt monsters. Expert mutant beast killers.
The problem is that the order didn't last long. The creators weren't very satisfied with the Witchers. With this disappointment from the sorcerers came "abandonment", causing the Witchers to be on their own when the order came to an end. After that, with the separation of the order's members, the witcher schools emerged. These schools would obviously serve to train more Witchers, and each one of them began to have its own characteristics and teaching methods.
The difficulties of being a witcher
Being a witcher is not easy at all, and it's also because of this that there aren't many. A witcher goes through brutal and painful mutations, and besides that, students of the schools had to participate in a test called the Trial of the Grasses, known for causing the death of 7 out of every 10 boys who undertake it.

School of the Wolf
This is the most famous, precisely because it's the school of Geralt of Rivia, the White Wolf. Located in Kaer Morhen in the mountains of the kingdom of Kaedwen. The School of the Wolf was marked by the event known as the Massacre of Kaer Morhen, in which fanatics brutally seized the fortress.
Of the witchers who were in the fortress, the only one to get out alive was Vesemir. A few others were lucky enough to be on missions outside the fortress, as was the case with Geralt. The symbol of this school is logically the head of a wolf.

School of the Griffin
This is one of the schools that doesn't have much information. Although there are no confirmations, it is believed that its location is in Kovir and Poviss. Its equipment is focused on medium weight and witchers from this school tend to amplify the use of signs.
It is believed that the location of the school's fortress is in Kovir and Poviss because once a witcher named Coen hibernated in Kaer Morhen without revealing which school he was from. Considering the fact that witchers from the School of the Cat are not welcome in Kaer Morhen, everything suggests that Coen was a Griffin, combining this with the fact that the man was from Poviss, it is judged that it is also the location of the fortress.

School of the Cat
This is the most problematic school, we could say. Formed by witchers who didn't have their mutations properly completed, it became known as a place of lunatic, psychopathic and aggressive men, among other things.
Not much is known about the school, and not even its location. But it is known that the witchers who chose the name "cat" are like mercenaries and assassins, they deviate greatly from the ideas of the witcher order, and are men who will practically do anything for money.
In Wild Hunt, which is the third game in the franchise, we see that the cats are very skilled and focus on agility and speed, which matches their name. However, we can see that they are truly men without morals, because unlike other witchers, they even accept contracts to kill humans.

School of the Bear
Like some others, this school doesn't present much information. However, there is some, for example the fact that witchers from this school were together with the Cats, the only ones who used crossbows in their combat.
Besides that, we also know that witchers from the School of the Bear were men who performed powerful and heavy attacks, but didn't display much speed and agility. Much of this is because of their armor, which offering great resistance were long, heavy and with strong plates that offered great defensive power. It is also said that these witchers used animal skins. In 1272 the school had already disappeared.

School of the Viper
This is a school located in Nilfgaard. It became famous and even important to the saga, because it was there that Letho of Gulet, the Kingslayer, emerged.
Letho is the most famous member of the School of the Viper, thanks to the fact that the man initiated a hunt in search of all the kings of the north, with the intention of
killing them. Aided by Iorveth and the Scoia'taels, the witcher began his killing spree, which put him face to face with Geralt of Rivia.
Other members who are also regicides from this school are Auckes and Serrit, men close to Letho.
It is said that members of the Viper learned to use short blades, so many of these witchers choose to use short swords. It is possible that the School of the Viper was the one that kept the most knowledge and important information. In fact, its library contained several books about the Wild Hunt. When for unknown reasons the school ended, its students scattered across the continent.
Well-known witchers of the school: Letho, Auckes, Serrit, Kolgrim, and besides these also the leader of the school, called Ivar Evil-Eye.
There is also another unknown witcher, who was only mentioned by Letho while he was talking with Geralt.
School of the Manticore:
This is the school with the least information. All that is known is that witchers from there come from Hakland and Zerrikania, which are in more distant lands. There is also confirmation that one member of the school died in Toussaint.
The School of the Manticore was presented in an expansion of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and so we didn't have many things revealed about these witchers.
