In May of this year, Netflix added to its platform the dramatic film that retells the story of three girls, Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Gina DeJesus, who were abducted from 2002 to 2004 by Ariel Castro. Cleveland Abduction is yet another film that narrates the horror experienced by innocent people. If you're looking for a film based on true events, this one is a great recommendation.
The film features Taryn Manning from Orange is the New Black, Samantha Droke, and Katie Sarife in the cast. The role of the kidnapper went to American actor Raymond Cruz from Breaking Bad.

Based on a True Case
Michelle Knight, at 21 years old, was fighting in court to maintain custody of her son, which she had already lost to the State once before. On August 23, 2002, Michelle was on her way to a custody hearing when she was pulled into Ariel Castro's car.
In 2003, Amanda Berry, at 16 years old, was heading home after a day of work. Ariel Castro pulled up beside her in his car and offered her a ride. Amanda accepted and was never seen again. Amanda Berry would turn 17 on April 22, but she was abducted the day before.
On April 2, 2004, Gina DeJesus, 14 years old, was accompanied by her friend Arlene, who was the same age. The two were near a public phone. Gina had just finished a call with Arlene's mother, who had asked if her daughter could sleep at her house, but she denied the request. Upset with the no, Arlene went one way and Gina went another. The same tactic was used. Ariel Castro pulled up in his car and offered her a ride. By accepting, Gina disappeared.
Ariel Castro was 43 years old when he committed the abductions and imprisoned the girls in separate rooms of his house, located on Seymour Avenue.
Michelle, the first victim, was raped and beaten multiple times, suffering five miscarriages and hearing loss in one ear. Amanda, the second victim, also suffered the same abuse as Michelle, but during a pregnancy caused by rape, Amanda gave birth to a girl who was born on December 25, 2006.
The three girls suffered countless beatings and sexual assaults. It was in this horrific scenario that Amanda's daughter grew up.
The Truth Comes Out
On May 6, 2013, Ariel Castro left the house and left one of the doors to the room where the girls were kept open. That was the opportunity for Amanda to escape. Unfortunately, the front door of the house was locked. With Ariel gone, Amanda started banging desperately on the door, crying for help.
A man passing by the street, named Angel Cordero, heard the screams and went to check. Since his English wasn't very good, Angel asked for help from a neighbor named Charles Ramsey. The two broke down the doors and saved Amanda. The young woman called the police and told them her name and that there were two more women in the house.
The case quickly resonated around the world. At trial, Ariel Castro was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of bail. Michelle was the only one of the victims who went to court and witnessed the sentence. The house where the crime happened was demolished on September 13 of that year. Ariel Castro committed suicide in his cell.
