Award-winning Icelandic film is one of Netflix's greatest hidden treasures

Lara (played by Kristín Þóra Haraldsdóttir) is an Icelandic woman struggling to overcome financial problems while trying to raise and support her son, keeping him safe from the harshness of adult life. In parallel, we meet Adja (Babetida Sadjo), a migrant from Guinea-Bissau who seeks to maintain hope while fighting to live in Canada. Both characters end up having their lives drastically transformed by one another, an intricate web of events that allows us to see how we affect and are affected by those who cross our path, regardless of how different our lives may seem.

How is "Inspire Expire" being received?

The strength demonstrated by the protagonists of "Inspire Expire" has been acclaimed by audiences and critics, creating a sense of identification and admiration. The skillful way the film combines the icy Icelandic visuals, which serve as an allegory for the challenges faced, and the warmth of human relationships, provides a beautiful contrast that does justice to the socio-political dramas the work addresses. The expressive performances of the actresses combined with the controlled pacing allowed audiences to deeply absorb the reality presented and the drama experienced by the protagonists. Although the film has been widely praised, some critics point to the slowness of the narrative, which sometimes affects the film's pace. There are also comments about how current conflicts could be more complex; however, forcing this aspect could result in excessive melodrama. Ultimately, "Inspire Expire" presents a very positive vision, proving to be successful in its mission to highlight the humanity in these characters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEpY2TRzpAI
