Why does Corinthian have teeth in his eyes in Sandman?

One of the great characters we saw in the seriesSandman was Corinthian. The nightmare and serial killer proved to be one of the major antagonists to Dream throughout the series and constantly tried to make life difficult for the protagonist.
However, the villain's great differentiator from other people are his "eyes," which are mouths. This is the main characteristic of the character's design, both in the comics and in the series.

And of course this characteristic raises several questions, but the main one is why the character's "eyes" are like that. And the explanation for this is something much simpler than it seems.
Why are Corinthian's eyes like that?
The big truth is that Corinthian was created with eyes like that from the start, and by created I'm not talking about Neil Gaiman's creation of the character, but rather the character's creation by Dream within the comics story, and now within the series.
As told in the comics and also mentioned in the series, the toothed-eyed serial killer is actually one of the Great Arcana of the realm of dreams. His creation was made mainly out of the need for someone, or something, to pursue dreamers and frighten them in their dreams.
That's why Corinthian has such a terrifying form and of course his extra teeth aren't just for show. In the comics, it's revealed that the serial killer consumes the eyes of his victims to consume their memories, after all "the eyes are the windows to the soul".

Adapting to the waking world
And both in the series and in the comics, the character escapes the dreaming realm and goes to Earth to start his own "collection" over more than 100 years. Because of this, we see the character most of the time having to wear his sunglasses so he doesn't have all his teeth showing. Which ends up giving the character a mysterious, and even seductive air at times. Because of this, we almost never see the character without his sunglasses.
