The list of Assassin's Creed protagonists is quite diverse, featuring many characters. As it happens, the number of characters will keep growing, mainly due to the emergence of the Ubisoft franchise, which covers many historical periods and always strives to make the main characters at least captivating enough.
So, check out below the selection of the best characters in the game:

Edward Kenway
Edward Kenway didn't seem like a hero. Unlike Altaïr, a member of the Creed from an early age, Ezio Auditore, who lost his family while young and became an Assassin, and Connor Kenway, whose thirst for revenge set him on the path to becoming an assassin, Edward was just an irresponsible pirate. Despite suffering from some clichés, Edward's character development is excellent.

Ezio Auditore
Ezio was developed across three games, covering different moments of his life and being seen in different ways by the group of supporting characters accompanying him. Due to his great value, you can see how the character remained faithful to his long journey of revenge for so many years, standing alongside other great heroes and making his popularity and importance in games even more notable.
If you've read the books in the series, it's very hard not to become a fan of Altaïr, especially because of the way the character exposes his own thoughts about the Creed and his vision for the group's future. However, in the games, he tends to be a protagonist without many nuances, but still engaging enough to leave a mark on players' memories.
The protagonist embodies all the ideals defended by the Assassin's Creed Origins group, serving in both positive and negative ways, seeming more like the embodiment of a concept than a character in itself, making it so the player can even identify with him.
If you haven't played Assassin's Creed Rogue, know that Shay brings much more nuance than most of the protagonists on this list. After questioning everything he believed in, he decides to go in the opposite direction and exposes the less admirable side of the group we love.
