Raiders of the Lost Ark is considered one of the greatest adventure films of all time
Released in 1981, Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark is definitely one of the greatest action/adventure productions. The film is one of Harrison Ford's major works, which has countless other great productions in his impressive resume.
In the plot we see the protagonist searching for the Ark of the Covenant, a biblical artifact with great powers, while fleeing from Nazis in an incredible chase. With supernatural powers, the item grants invincibility to its bearer, being one of the great desires of the German army. However, it's not the only artifact with powers in the film, as Indiana Jones also finds the Staff of Ra, which provides the location of the Well of Souls, where the Ark of the Covenant is kept.
The artifact is the major plot hole in the film
To find the Well of Souls, the bearer of the Staff of Ra must use it to locate the other artifact, reflecting the sunlight exactly at the correct spot. Furthermore, its length is the key piece to finding it, since its measurement gives the exact location where the Ark of the Covenant is.
With this information, it's confirmed that the staff is about 1.5 meters tall, the exact size to locate the Well of Souls. However, when Indiana Jones holds it, it appears to be much taller than that, since Harrison Ford is 5'11" and the staff in the film appears much bigger than him, check it out:

Moreover, to locate the well, the light reflected on the staff would only happen at certain moments during the day, since it needs the correct angle to find the Ark. However, when falling into the map room, Indiana Jones immediately raises the Staff of Ra and discovers the location right away, even though the detail of the light is the most important fact for locating the Well of Souls.
