Midnight Fight Express is the latest Beat 'em Up title from Humble Games that features unique twists to keep things fresh, challenging, and rewarding with each new mission. Whether you're fighting sewer gangs while wearing a knight suit or taking down a helicopter while on top of a high-speed train, there's always a wrench thrown into the mix to keep you on your toes.
While you have plenty to see and do in Midnight Fight Express, some encounters can be brutally difficult, especially if you're playing on some of the more challenging difficulties and barely have any skills to work with, particularly at the start. Fortunately, there are several ways to make things much more manageable from the beginning, allowing you to overcome the obstacles ahead of you with terrible style.
During the game's tutorial section, you'll be introduced to the 'Focus' system, which allows you to scan the room for crucial information about things like enemy health, weapons, and even item locations. While it can be easy to forget this mechanic, you should always use it, as it can help you drastically, especially if you're looking for a specific item or weapon.
Additionally, in most missions, you'll need to rely heavily on using explosive propane tanks to take down specific enemies or may need to use long-range weapons to comfortably engage in combat with your opponent, which makes Focus shine even more. Plus, some challenges will have you leaving the level with a unique item or accumulating kills with a specific weapon that might be hidden during the mission. Focus will highlight these objects for you, making it much less tedious to rummage through the chaos to find them yourself.
Train your skills in the Playground
Getting stomped by a particular group of enemies or unlocked an ability you don't quite understand how it works? Fortunately for you, there's a mode where you can practice quick work on specific enemy types and hone your learned skills, which is the game's Playground mode.
The Playground will allow you to spawn in enemy types, equip them with weapons and shields, and will also give you the ability to choose your weapon, allowing you to find unique and clever ways to overcome scenarios that have given you difficulty. You'll also have access to all the abilities you've unlocked, making this the best way to test combos and cool tricks.

Best starting abilities
While choosing abilities that fit your playstyle is crucial, there are some that we consider mandatory at the start of the game. Whether you're the king of Parrying or the best of them all, we recommend you get the following abilities as quickly as possible, as they will help you dramatically in the early missions and beyond.
Combos: This allows you to chain light and heavy attacks together for devastating combos.
Long-Range Attacks: Grants you the ability to advance from one enemy to another, covering great distance to extend your combo chain and stay in motion.
Parry and Counter-Attack: Allows you to follow up a successful Parry with a counter-attack.
Chain Finisher: Execute a Finisher after landing two light attacks, allowing you to dispatch smaller units efficiently.
Elemental Finisher: Automatically triggers a Finisher on an opponent you've pinned against the wall with hits.
Grab Enemy: Enables the ability to grab your opponent, allowing you to land several uncontested jabs while you hold them.
After acquiring these abilities, you should have a decent understanding of what each Skill Tree offers, allowing you to select the path you want or feel fits your playstyle. We didn't include Rope or Secondary Weapon Abilities here, as they become available later in your game!

Don't sweat the small stuff
It can be tempting to go out of your way to complete Challenges, get all the Golden Teeth, or find a mission's NPC, but you should know that they only unlock cosmetics and a fun trick you can use in already-cleared areas, making them have no impact on your first playthrough of the game. Additionally, some challenges can't be completed unless you have a specific ability unlocked that comes much further down the line.
Another crucial detail to add is that you only get Skill Points by completing a mission once. There are 40 Missions and 40 Abilities and Upgrades, which means the only way to get all the Abilities is to complete all missions, so you should save Challenges for endgame content, since that's when you'll be able to complete them and reach S Ranks much more easily.
It's okay to change the difficulty
Finally, if things just aren't working out for you and you're stuck on a mission or section, don't be afraid to mess with the difficulty settings. That's what they're there for, and there are many great options you can tweak to make the experience tailored to your liking. And if you prefer to play on more challenging difficulties, you can always come back to it after you feel more comfortable with the game and have more Abilities available. See how to adjust your difficulty in-game:
Return to the Hideout > Main Menu > Settings > Game > Difficulty; Once here, you can browse through all difficulties and see what adjustments each one makes and by how much. Additionally, you can also choose "Custom" and manually adjust things like your starting health, enemy aggression, focus meter, and much more to fine-tune things to your playstyle!
