IMPUROS: Prediction of the premiere date for season 4 on Star+
Recently, the Impuros series has been growing increasingly popular and reaching all across Brazil. The story takes place in Rio de Janeiro during the 90s, inspired by real events from that era. However, the series narrates a different perspective of the facts, showing both sides of the escalating violence in drug trafficking: police and criminals.
Evandro do Dendê is a young man from Rio's favela who intends to reach 18 years old by earning his own money honestly. His aspirations completely change when his brother is killed by police, causing him to decide to seek revenge, thus gaining notoriety within the command's hierarchy. Meanwhile, the alcoholic police officer Victor Morello spares no effort to arrest him.
Currently, productions like Dom (Amazon Prime Video) and Irmandade (Netflix) have gained notoriety and sparked curiosity among Impuros fans, who are questioning whether the series also has historical roots. And that's exactly what will be addressed next.
Historical Inspiration Behind Impuros
During the 90s, various criminals gained significant notoriety in Brazilian favelas, but Impuros questions this perspective, problematizing the subject. The series was created by Alexandre Fraga and based on his memories from the Federal Police during this turbulent period. During this time, the Collor Plan froze money in Brazilians' bank accounts during a period of high inflation, and drug trafficking became more professionalized. The original idea came from a financial operation known as overnight; investments that paid returns on invested capital overnight. In an interview, Fraga stated: "what if someone from the drug trade decided to take the money and invest it in the bank a day before the famous confiscation?". That's how the story of Afonso was created, a character who decides to earn extra money by investing the trafficking proceeds for whom he works. Evandro do Dendê, the main character, has no historical basis, but was slightly inspired by drug dealer Fernando Gomes de Freitas, known as Fernandinho Guarabu. He was known as Gatonet and was responsible for selling drugs on Morro do Dendê. He was also accused of imposing tolls on taxis and vans, being considered one of the most profitable drug dealers in the region.Early Series Renewal
