Today the franchise has six films with different stories, but all of them with the same central idea: what can happen to a child who was left home alone on Christmas? With this premise, 6 hugely successful films were born that come back every year during the Christmas season.   The first films feature Macaulay Culkin, who plays the protagonist of this adventure.

Home Alone with Macaulay Culkin

The first films in the franchise starred Macaulay Culkin, who played Kevin McCallister. The boy's family travels to spend Christmas vacation and ends up leaving him home alone. With his unexpected "vacation," Kevin ends up protecting his family's house from a pair of burglars who try everything to break in and steal from the property.   In 1992 the sequel to the first film was released and Culkin starred again as the protagonist. In this second film the story is different: the boy gets lost at an airport and ends up boarding a flight to New York, but his family is heading to Florida. In this case, the character had to fend for himself in the big city.

Other films in the franchise

As mentioned before, the Home Alone franchise has six different films, the first two starring Culkin. However, despite all the success, the third film, "Home Alone 3," breaks away from the original duology, introducing Alex D. Liz as Alex Pruitt. Thus, the protagonist gets into trouble when terrorists hide a chip with confidential information in a toy that ends up in his hands. Alone at home, like in the first films, the boy is forced to fend for himself to ensure the safety of his home.   In the fourth film there is another protagonist change, and Mike Weinberg takes over. In this film the character is invited by his father to spend Christmas at his new girlfriend's house, where a prince is also staying. However, the boy discovers a kidnapping plot orchestrated by two criminals and gets help from the butler to prevent an even bigger catastrophe.   In the fifth film of the franchise, which was named "Home Alone 5: Alone at Christmas," there is another change of main character, which is taken over by Christian Martyn, who plays Finn. The story returns to the original franchise premise when the boy's parents can't make it home due to a heavy snowstorm. With that, he needs to defend his home against a pair of burglars trying to break in.   The sixth and final film was named "Home Sweet Home Alone" and returns to the original duology universe. To the surprise of franchise fans, the film brings Kevin McCallister's brother to the cast. The lead role went to Archie Yates, who plays Max, a boy who must protect his home from a pair of burglars looking for an inheritance.   Although different, all the films bring the spirit of the "Home Alone" franchise in an innovative way.
