Ergo Proxy arrived on Netflix. Learn more about this intriguing anime

For the conception of the anime, Manglobe used some curious references. Starting with the protagonist Re-l Mayer, whose character design was inspired by singer Amy Lee, vocalist of the band Evanescence. The American Gothic Rock band was at its peak at the time. Therefore, the visual used by Amy Lee on the cover of the album Fallen was completely reproduced in the creation of Re-l.     Another interesting reference is the name of the virus that causes AutoReivs to begin having feelings, Cogito. This name comes from Latin and means "I think". Therefore, the word was extracted from the saying Cogito, ergo sum, which means "I think, therefore I am". Furthermore, the word "Ergo" was also taken from the same saying to name the series. Another very striking reference is the anime's ending theme, Paranoid Android, by the band Radiohead. It refers to the android Marvin from the book The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, who suffers from depression, a human psychological ailment. Therefore, Radiohead's music had more than an immediate connection with the infected AutoReivs, who begin to think and have human feelings. Unfortunately, the version released by Netflix does not include the ending with the song Paranoid Android. The removal is likely related to some kind of licensing restriction. The story of Ergo Proxy

Strange cases involving AutoReivs infected with the Cogito virus begin to become frequent in the city of Romdo. It is one of the major metropolises surrounded by a system of isolation from the outside world, which was completely destroyed by pollution. Infected AutoReivs begin to be accused of murders, becoming hunted by government agents. On the other hand, the government itself hides the existence of Proxies, powerful humanoid creatures that emerged on the planet after the great apocalypse. Inspector Re-l Mayer, granddaughter of the Regent of Romdo, becomes involved in the investigation of the strange murders. However, she ends up having an unexpected encounter with a Proxy. From then on, the secrets that the government has hidden from everyone for years begin to come to light.   Finally, the anime Ergo Proxy has a total of 23 episodes, with approximately 26 minutes each.
