However, there are three main characters in the series' plot. They are: Dana Sue, played by Brooke Elliott, she owns the local restaurant, and grew up in the town with her best friends Helen, played by Heather Headley and Maddie, played by Joanna Garcia Swisher.
Helen is a very successful lawyer, she works in Serenity as a family counselor. While Maddie is a woman trying to deal with a failed marriage, after being betrayed by a clinic nurse.
However, Maddie is not alone in her unhappiness. Dana Sue faces problems with her work, while Helen is dissatisfied with her personal life. So, they come to the conclusion that to fix everything, it would be interesting to open a spa and focus on that.

The conflicts throughout Sweet Magnolias, on
Netflix, are diverse. For example, right away we see Maddie in conflict because she feels attracted to her son's baseball coach, even though she just separated.
As for Helen, she's in conflict with herself because she has an uncontrollable desire to have a family, but doesn't know how to do it. Finally, Dana Sue, who needs to deal with the lack of confidence she acquired due to conflicts with her ex-husband.
However, the story doesn't feature major events. Instead, it deals with real problems that are meant to make the audience relate to it. But also to convey the message that everything will get better.
