Wednesday co-creator reveals Tim Burton was responsible for the show's unique monster design

Wednesday co-creator Alfred Gough revealed that Tim Burton single-handedly designed the "unique" monster from the Netflix show.
According to Gough, who brought the Addams Family spin-off to life alongside Miles Millar, the filmmaker was so unsatisfied with the creature's initial concept art that he decided to solve the problem himself.

Starring Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, and Jenna Ortega, the eight-episode series sees the famous Addams family daughter sent to Nevermore Academy, a school for young gorgons, vampires, psychics, werewolves, and the like, which her mother Morticia and father Gomez once attended.
There, she faces a mystery and soon finds herself trying to uncover the true identity of a Hyde who has been violently killing people throughout the city. The series feels like a mix of Enola Holmes with The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Co-creator speaks about Tim Burton's design
In an interview with TVLine, when asked about the monster's aesthetic in the show, Gough said "That's literally Tim's design".
He recalled how Burton, who directed the first four episodes of the series, created "a watercolor image" of his vision for the monster, growing frustrated with the team's reluctance to choose from the 50 to 60 concepts they had. And well, in the end, that's exactly what ended up on screen.

"I think it's so original, unique, and scary. That's exactly what we wanted," Gough explained. "There's a creature designer in Hollywood that everyone seeks out, like the Stranger Things people, and there's a similarity or familiarity. But this one is very original. We were so thrilled to have something specific for the show and for Tim".
