Directed by Cho Young-myoung, the film focuses on a sensitive narrative about first love, the insecurities of youth, and the inevitable process of growing up. The result is a nostalgic, light, and emotional film, ideal for those who enjoy productions that blend romance with reflections on the passage of time.
What The Apple of My Eye is About
The plot follows Koo Jin-woo, an immature, playful student without major academic ambitions, who lives a typical school life alongside his friends. Through silly conversations, minor troubles, and school routines, he tries to avoid any serious involvement with his studies or his own feelings.
In the same environment is Oh Sun-ah, the brightest, most admired, and popular student in the school. Intelligent, disciplined, and extremely dedicated, she becomes the center of attention for several classmates, including Jin-woo's friend group.
Initially, he insists on denying any romantic interest, maintaining an indifferent attitude. However, as their time together intensifies, Jin-woo realizes he is deeply in love.
This feeling becomes a turning point in his life. For the first time, he genuinely wants to change: he starts studying more, matures his attitudes, and begins to see the future differently.
The film follows this transition between adolescence and adulthood, showing how first love can be responsible for major personal changes.
Main Cast
One of the film's greatest attractions is precisely its cast, especially for Dahyun's film debut as the lead.
Jinyoung as Koo Jin-woo
Jung Jin-young plays the story's protagonist. The actor was already known for various roles in Korean dramas and also for his music career in the group B1A4. His character represents that ordinary young person, full of flaws and insecurities, who finds in love the motivation to grow.
Dahyun as Oh Sun-ah
Kim Da-hyun takes on the role of Oh Sun-ah, marking her first film lead role. The artist's participation generated enormous repercussion among K-pop fans, especially as it marks a new phase in her artistic career outside the stage. Her character is the classic student admired by everyone, but who also carries her own insecurities and emotional complexities.
Other Cast Members
Besides the protagonists, the film features Lee Min-goo, Son Jeong-hyeok (DEMIAN), Kim Yo-han, Park Sung-woong, and Shin Eun-jung. The participation of veterans Park Sung-woong and Shin Eun-jung also drew attention for a curious detail: the two are married in real life and play Jin-woo's parents in the film.
