Since the recent announcement that the creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, are making a live-actionDeath Noteseries, fans have been worried that the series won't have Tokyo as the main setting like the original anime.
Most animes feature beautiful artwork of iconic scenarios around Japan, and possibly the most popular setting is the country's capital, Tokyo. Tokyo is one of Japan's most well-known and beautiful cities, proven by its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and very active nightlife. Therefore, it's no surprise that some animes actually take place in Tokyo, since the city is large enough for all kinds of wild mischief.

The city has some beautiful parks, amazing restaurants, and popular hangout spots for certain idol groups. These animes show that the city of Tokyo is so alive and vibrant that it's practically a character in itself.
Tokyo Ghoul (2017)
Tokyo Ghoul follows the story of carnivorous ghouls trying to blend in with human society, while dominance emerges and others seek quiet coexistence. The story follows high school student Ken Kaneki, who, when an encounter goes wrong, becomes a half-ghoul and faces various dangers and constant threats while being forced to live alongside other ghouls.
It's one that surpasses the expectations of normal anime conventions, full of cliffhangers and interesting characters. The Tokyo setting could have been used to show the audience that, although it's a well-known place full of culture, not everything is as perfect as it seems. The anime also has aspects of racism, classism, and oppression that are all real-world problems, some of which Tokyo faces daily.

Death Note (2006)
Death Note revolves around a young man named Light Yagami, who comes across a book titled 'Death Note'. The book ends up being dropped from another realm by a demon. By writing someone's name in a notebook, it can cause another person's death. Light cleverly uses his newly discovered power to clean the streets of criminals. The show itself seems to portray a more mundane representation of Tokyo, with a sinister twist beneath the surface.
The anime accurately portrays what it's like to be an average high school student living in Tokyo, but adds some unexpected challenges. Light Yagami seems to a first-time viewer like the perfect student and son, but he's an example that, given the right tools, even apparently normal people can become dangerous.

The show also has some epic fight scenes and also dives deep into the human psyche and the good-natured relationship between Yuji and his teacher, Gojo Satoru really sets the tone of the anime. It's set in Kanagawa Prefecture, part of the Greater Tokyo area, and features some beautiful locations.

One Punch-Man (2005)
Most anime fans will probably recognize Saitama or One Punch-Man by his yellow suit and red cape, but his regular and nondescript appearance hides the fact that he continues to save Z-City in disguise without others noticing Saitama's good deeds and powerful feats.
The anime has a strong theme of obsessions and desires, and their obsessions became them. Attentive fans have noticed that some locations in Z-City seem strangely reminiscent of Tokyo's iconic landmarks. The visuals, including Saitama's apartment, remind many of some buildings in Setagaya, Tokyo. This is a realistic view of an apartment in a big city, proving that his superhero life isn't so different from the rest of the world.
