The new hit from Netflix, The Sea Beast is an action and adventure animated film that the whole family can enjoy. In the film, a young girl named Maisie Bramble stows away on a famous sea hunting ship crewed by brave sailors who hunt terrifying sea creatures. However, Maisie, alongside sailor Jacob Holland, soon discovers that the beasts aren't as terrifying as they thought.
The Sea Beast was well-received by critics thanks to its incredible world-building, original narrative, and impressive animation. And despite being a kids' film, it refused to deliver a completely childish movie and instead presented a story about adventure, bravery, and trust. Viewers who enjoyed The Sea Beast should check out other animated films that feature ferocious creatures and also take place in the depths.

Moana (2016)
The already iconic Moana is a heroic Disney princess who will do everything she can to save her island and her people. In the film, Moana sets out on an exciting adventure to find the goddess Te Fiti and reunite her with a magical relic stolen by the trickster demigod Maui.
Although they may present two completely different worlds and cultures, The Sea Beast and Moana feature stubborn characters who see the good in terrifying creatures and monsters. In a world where Vikings make conquests and dragons roam freely, Hiccup, the son of a Viking chief, is tasked with killing a dragon to be considered a warrior. But after capturing a notorious dragon, Hiccup changes his mind and decides to befriend it — just like Maisie befriended Red in The Sea Beast.
How to Train Your Dragon from 2010 is considered by many to be one of the best animated films from DreamWorks Animation due to its perfect pacing, captivating animation, and surprisingly touching screenplay.

Treasure Planet (2002)
Based on Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island, Treasure Planet is a film that follows Jim Hawkins, a teenager who receives a mysterious map from a dying pirate. Accompanied by an anthropomorphic dog astronomer named Dr. Delbert Doppler, Jim sets out aboard the RLS Legacy ship to find the planet filled with treasures.
Although it may not be set in the ocean, Treasure Planet is also a film about exploration, trust, and characters who want to prove they're more than they appear. The film was praised for its inventive visuals and humor, but received criticism for its weak characterizations.

Luca (2021)
The Pixar film Luca is a sweet tale about a sea monster who discovers that humans aren't as terrifying as he was told. The film also features the captivating and enchanting friendship between Luca and another sea monster named Alberto.
Maisie from The Sea Beast and Luca find common ground in wanting to find a purpose in a world they're unfamiliar with. Both films feature supposedly terrifying sea creatures, but in Luca, the main characters are sea monsters.

Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003)
Drawing inspiration from the collection of folklore tales One Thousand and One Nights, Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas tells the story of a pirate named Sinbad who must recover the Book of Peace from Eris, the Goddess of Chaos.
Both The Sea Beast and Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas are epic adventures set in a world full of mysterious creatures. But in Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, the main characters have to fend off a god as well as powerful mythical creatures like sirens that lure men to abandon ship and The Roc, a giant eagle-like creature.
