James Mangold (Logan) will direct Indiana Jones 5, which is still officially untitled. He also co-wrote the script with Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth. Steven Spielberg was originally hired to direct, having directed all four previous films, but he has since stepped back to serve as a producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel. John Williams is also returning as composer after working on all the franchise scores over the past forty years, including the iconic theme music.
Unfortunately, filming for Indiana Jones 5 has not been without issues. After years of production delays, the film finally began shooting, with Harrison Ford back on set for his final adventure as Indiana Jones. A few weeks later, the 78-year-old actor injured his shoulder while rehearsing a fight scene, raising concerns about further delays. Ford recently celebrated his 79th birthday while rehabilitating his shoulder injury, but director James Mangold says production will continue regardless.
“During rehearsal for a fight scene, Harrison Ford suffered a shoulder injury,” a Disney statement read at the time. “Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated, and the shooting schedule will be adjusted as necessary in the coming weeks.”
Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled for release in July 2022.
